An exploratory empirical study of developing software across time zones
نویسنده
چکیده
Market forces and an increasingly reliable world-wide communications network have made geographically distributed software engineering a reality. Global software development enables businesses to respond more easily and more quickly to global market opportunities and to improve product and service quality. One of the many potential benefits of global development is a reduction in development time through the adoption of an ‘around the clock’ working practice. This paper introduces a sequential collaborative software engineering process involving shift working across time zones and describes an exploratory empirical study of this working pattern involving the implementation of a small-scale software system. The paper reports on the organisation of the study and on the results obtained through questionnaires, observations and measurements.

متن کاملA Developed Model for Purchase Intention of Foreign Food Products: An Empirical Study in the Iranian Context
The aim of this study is to develop a conceptual model for purchase intention of foreign food products in the Iranian context. Based on an in-depth review of past literature, the sub-factors related to customer’s purchase intention were extracted. Then, exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were applied to identify and confirm the factors affecting purchase intention of f...
متن کاملSupporting Exploratory Analysis with the Select & Slice Table
In interactive visualization, selection techniques such as dynamic queries and brushing are used to specify and extract items of interest. In other words, users define areas of interest in data space that often have a clear semantic meaning. We call such areas Semantic Zones, and argue that support for their manipulation and reasoning with them is highly useful during exploratory analysis. An i...
متن کاملDesigning Software Cockpits for Coordinating Distributed Software Development
Coordination of global software development is particularly difficult as it involves teams that are distributed across different locations and time zones. One of the key issues is a lack of understanding of how activities of different teams (and team members) relate to one another. To provide situational awareness for distributed teams, software cockpits, at-a-glance computer-controlled display...
متن کاملFree/Libre Open Source Software Development in Developing and Developed Countries: An Exploratory Study
How do participants in free/libre open source software (henceforth FL/OSS) development in different countries differ in the preference for such public good initiatives? How do their incentives to participate in FL/OSS development differ across global boundaries? This exploratory study performs a comparative analysis of generic motivations and project−level preferences of FL/OSS participation ac...
